Miss Angelica-Jasmine Bates
Hello, everyone! I am Angelica-Jasmine Bates, the ASL teacher at Jasper High School.
My passion for ASL has been a driving force in my life for over 15 years. I hold an Associate’s degree in Interpreter Education and Deaf Studies and later completed a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Strategic Communications with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship from Southern Methodist University (SMU). Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Deaf educators and leaders, deepening my appreciation for ASL and strengthening my role as a dedicated ally to the Deaf community.
In my classroom, I strive to create a vibrant and inclusive environment where students are inspired to connect and communicate through ASL. I believe in the power of language to bridge communities. As such, I am committed to helping my students embrace the beauty of ASL with enthusiasm and confidence.
Let’s make this year an exciting and unforgettable journey into the world of ASL and Deaf culture!
Please note: ASL is NOT English. Like any other language, ASL has its own rules, grammar, and syntax. This course will have an integration of expressive and receptive skills with emphasis on fingerspelling, numbers, glossing, signs, phrases, and more!
