My name is Michele Poovey and I have had the privilege of teaching in Plano ISD for 21 years. Before teaching, I received a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from Texas A&M University and a Masters in Secondary Science Education from UTD. I have taught middle school and high school science as well as the AVID elective. I have had the honor of teaching Biology at Jasper High school since 2015.
During my career, I have been recognized as the beginning teacher of the year at Williams High School and received the Ross Perot Award for new teachers. I received the Texas Instruments STEM Award at Frankford MS as well as at Jasper HS and have been a finalist for PISD Teacher of the Year. I have served as an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) staff developer for science for 5 years, where I helped teachers grow and to develop best practices for the classroom.
Teaching young people has always been my passion. I am committed to providing every student with a positive, supportive environment while providing a challenging learning experience. My goal is for each student to discover the joy of learning, how they learn and guide them to reach their full potential.
