Mr. Akira Sato

Akira Sato has been teaching AP Music Theory at Plano West since 2013.  Prior to joining the Wolfpack, he taught jazz studies courses at the University of North Texas and Southern Methodist University.  Mr. Sato is a College Board consultant in AP Music Theory, leading teacher workshops throughout the nation.  He has also been a reader for the AP Music Theory exam since 2015 and was a member of the AP Music Theory Development Committee from 2019-2024.  Mr. Sato has created numerous instructional videos that are posted in AP Classroom and on the College Board Youtube channel.

Mr. Sato was born in Japan and grew up in Canada.  He now lives in Plano with his wife and son (and two cats).  On a good day, you might see him riding his bike to school.
