Jasper High School Art Department
-
Jasper’s Art Department currently offers five different courses to our students: Art 1, PreAP Art 1, Art 2, PreAP Art 2, Sculpture 1 and Pre-AP Sculpture 2. Each of these courses uniquely allows students to develop, explore and experiment with their personal talents, distinct skill levels and individual creativity through a variety of media, lessons and activities. Our goal is for our students to be comfortable and confident with creating and discussing art, thus letting us guide students to produce a superior level of expressive, high quality work.
Jasper’s art students have a consistent reputation of creating outstanding works of art, ranging from drawings to paintings to sculptures, as well as computer generated pieces. Both teachers and students involved in our art programs are committed to the pride and tradition of producing the high quality of art our campus is known for. Jasper art students have historically received the honor of winning awards and recognition in various competitions, including TAEA Youth Art Month Regional Competition, TAEA Youth Art Month State Competition (including having a recent work selected as one of 10 to hang in the Texas Governor’s office), PISD Holiday Card Art Contest, PISD Martin Luther King, Jr. Art Competition, Congressional Art Competition, Collin County Visual Arts Show, Dallas World Cup Art Competition, VASE Regional Competition, VASE State Level Competition, VASE Gold Seal Award. We aim to continue participating annually in various competitions and receiving the well deserved recognition that our talented, hard working students consistently deserve. Go Jags!
Jasper High School is also the annual host site for the regional (10N) UIL competition for VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event.) The competition is held in February, attended by approximately 2000 entries, 100 jurors and many, many volunteers. Each year we have a vast number of Jasper students enter the competition - not only do the majority receive a top score (4) for their entry, but Jasper has yet to have a year we’ve entered the competition and have not been invited to attend State VASE.
Please visit the Plano ISD Art Website for examples of students’ art work and more information about our current courses, as well as art exhibits within the school district.
