Message to Plano ISD Community: Uvalde, TX Tragedy

May 24, 2022

As a community of educators, we are devastated by the deadly school shooting that occurred at a Texas elementary school on Tuesday, May 24. Plano ISD joins with school districts across our state and nation in extending sincere condolences to those affected by the tragic events in Uvalde, Texas.

We know that the effects of such an occurrence can be felt right here at home and that there may be a heightened concern about school safety within our Plano ISD community. School counselors and administrators stand ready to respond to the needs of students, parents and staff. If your child needs support processing what happened, please reach out to your campus and request a conference with your child's counselor.

We want to take this opportunity to reaffirm that your child’s physical and emotional safety is our top priority. As an added measure of safety, Plano ISD will have increased campus patrol officers throughout the district on Wednesday, May 25.

We want to assure our families that preparing for emergencies and promoting a safe learning environment for our students are ongoing in Plano ISD. The district works closely with agencies within our community to protect students, staff and facilities. The district also has a number of programs and protocols in place to promote safe schools and mitigate concerns, including implementing the Standard Response Protocol, a nationally recognized methodology that, through training and practice, ensures a uniform emergency response by faculty, staff and students. Please visit the Campus Safety & Security web page for more detailed information about campus safety protocols.

The district, with the full support of our school board, continues to evaluate our safety and security measures for options that may enhance student and campus safety. We know that you entrust us with those whom you hold most dear, and we thank you for your continued trust in Plano ISD.
