District Level and Collin County Spelling Bee Winners

February 22, 2021

This January, the Plano ISD annual district spelling bees in elementary and middle schools were virtual competitions, but the hard work and preparation involved was just as arduous as ever for students who begin training months in advance.

Spelling bees begin with competitions at the individual schools, and school winners advance to the Plano ISD District Spelling Bee. Winners of the district bee advance to the Collin County Bee, and Collin County winners advance to the Dallas Regional Spelling Bee. Winners at the regional bee will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee which will take place during summer 2021.

To keep students safe, our recent Plano ISD district spelling bees were conducted through the Scripps online testing platform. Two high-scoring students at each level have advanced from the district level competition to the Collin County Spelling Bee which took place on February 11. Congratulations to these district winners:

Collin County Spelling Bee, February 11

Our district champions represented Plano ISD well at the virtual Collin County Spelling Bee on February 11. The Scripps online testing platform presented many challenges; however, Plano ISD teachers and students worked hard to continue the spelling bee winning tradition. Competition included vocabulary words in addition to spelling words. Two Plano ISD students had the top scores and will advance to the Dallas Regional Bee on March 19. Plano ISD also claimed the first alternate position in a tiebreaker. Congratulations to these winning students:
