The grand opening of the Robbie & Lynore Robinson Fine Arts Center, originally scheduled for mid January, has been postponed. As construction has progressed, the floors in the building show evidence of significant cracking as a result of poor workmanship and/or design that do not meet the aesthetic standards established by Plano ISD. Mindful of our obligation to students, parents, staff, the taxpayers and the many supporters of this facility, Plano ISD leaders have elected not to take occupancy of the facility until this deficiency is resolved to the satisfaction of the District.
Understanding the ripple effect this has on our district and community, we will announce a new grand opening date as soon as we are able. Plano ISD students deserve a facility that honors their commitment to the arts and our goal is to make sure that you, our district and our community can be proud of our new home for the arts in Plano ISD.
Remediation
Floor remediation was completed in December. The District began to take over the building in late January, changing the locks, deep cleaning all areas, and moving in furniture. Mid to late March the Fine Arts Department started using the space for small UIL events and youth art month exhibits for elementary and secondary. A Grand Opening is anticipated for May.
The exterior wall remediation is still underway, and expected to be completed mid-April. A majority of the exterior has been painted with the elastomeric in a two tone color scheme proposed by the architect.
