Introducing the 2021-22 Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee
Plano ISD Superintendent of Schools Sara Bonser seeks advice from many school and community groups, including students. Read more below about each of the 2021-22 student advisory committee members' leadership activities, community service, favorite subjects and hobbies. The committee is pictured below at their October meeting.

Extra-curricular activities:- I am the senior class president at Plano West. I am also in the student congress and have participated in STUCO since my sophomore year.
Community service:
- I enjoy volunteering at the Storehouse of Collin County because it is located at my church, allowing me to feel more connected to the people I am serving. I like how local it is because I feel like I am making a difference in my personal community.
Favorite subject or teacher:

My favorite subject is physics because I really enjoy math. Physics allows me to apply science to real-world scenarios. I like math because I enjoy problem-solving, and there is only one right answer, so it is consistent.
Hobbies or other interests:
- I have worked at a local tea store called HteaO for a year and four months, but I am currently transitioning to a new nannying job. I take and pick up children in my neighborhood to and from their elementary school.

Jacqueline George • Plano East

Extra-curricular activities:
- The extra-curricular activity I enjoy is cheer. I have been on the Plano East cheer team for two years. On the team, I enjoy making friends and so many fun memories.
Community service:
- I am in PALS (Peer Assistance and Leadership) where I mentor students and help the special education kids. What interests me about PALS is getting to be a leader to my peers.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject is science because I love to learn something new about the world from a scientific perspective. My favorite teacher is Ms. Dunn, my biology teacher. She is a great teacher who gives me advice and helps we when I am struggling.
Hobbies or other interests:

I worked at the Tom Muhlenbeck recreation center as a swim instructor, teaching kids from age 2-8 how to swim. My other interests are painting, cooking and helping out in the community.
Anything else?
- I'm so happy to be part of this committee. In the future I want to be a dermatology surgeon. I have a good sense of humor, and I'm very dedicated to anything I do.

Kirti Moteka • Plano East

Extra-curricular activities:
- I am the Plano East yearbook editor-in-chief, and have been a staff member for the past four years. I love studying journalism while also being able to create a meaningful product for the entire student body to share. I'm also a second degree black belt in Taekwondo. I volunteer at S.O.U.L. Homeless Church, and I write articles for online student publications.
Community service:
- I love supporting my community, especially through art. I am a member of my school's National Art Honor Society (NAHS) team, and create cards for senior citizens and staff at Legacy Senior Center. I also volunteer to teach young kids bullet journaling, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Art is my way of helping my community while also having fun myself.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject is economics. To me, the class is a perfect combination of politics, history, math and psychology. Economics is really important in all aspects of life, so I enjoy learning about concepts that I can apply to myself.
Hobbies, jobs and interests:
- I run my own bullet journal business! I published and sold my bullet journals around Plano in 2019, and currently, I sell bullet journal templates digitally. It's one of my favorite hobbies because I love to draw and organize.
Anything else?
- I'm excited and honored to be on this council, and represent the school that I have been at for four years.

Gabriela Rupp • Plano

Extra-curricular activities:
- I am president of the Plano Senior High School Student Council and the Plano Senior High GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance), Plano ISD GSA, North Texas GSA and the Plano Senior High School Democrats. I also play bass in the Plano Senior High orchestra, and I am a member of the Plano Metropolitan Ballet.
Community service:
- I engage in community service through my school and my dance studio. What interests me most about this service is the ability to work within spaces and communities that have shaped me to make a difference and support others.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite classes in high school have been social studies classes such as humanities and American studies because I had great teachers for both and loved the student engagement aspects of the classes.
Hobbies or other interests:
- I teach ballet classes with young kids, and I have been a poll worker during elections. Some of my other hobbies including sewing and baking.

Extra-curricular activities:- I am now playing beach volleyball and have played volleyball from sixth - tenth grades.
Community service:
- I participate in service drives, Meals-on-Wheels, and I volunteer at shelters.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- I have always enjoyed math and want to have a career that includes math.
Hobbies or other interests:
- I love reading. I work at my mom's office, play volleyball and enjoy hanging out with friends.

Mary-Katherine Waide • Plano West

Extra-curricular activities:- I am part of Student Council from sophomore year to present. I love to be a part of planning school events and getting to have my voice heard. I love to plan events and see them play out. This year, I am the Student Congress secretary, so I'm very excited for this year. I have also been in National Honor Society from freshman year to present. I love to volunteer and give back to my community.
Community service:
- I volunteer with the National Charity League. I volunteer for multiple philanthropies and build a community with other members. Some organizations that I volunteer with are: Airborne Angels, Feed my Starving Children, Rainbow Days and Operation Kindness. I love to give back to my community.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject this year is statistics. Math has always been my favorite subject throughout school. I enjoy problem solving and love how math is like a puzzle.
Hobbies or other interests:
- Over the summer, I coached a fourth-grade girl's volleyball team, and we won almost all of our games! In my free time, I enjoy reading, baking, exercising and hanging out with friends and family.
Anything else?
- I'm so excited to serve on the Superintendent's Advisory Council this year! I enjoyed it so much last year, and I'm looking forward to this upcoming year.

Extra-curricular activities:
- For the past five years, I have volunteered at my church. And I have participated in Delta Gems for the past six years.
Community service:
- I volunteer with the North Texas Food Bank. Being able to impact people in need is something that interests me. I also volunteer at The Warren Center. Being able to provide children with therapies is rewarding.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject is math because everything is factual. There is nothing that is theoretical. Everything makes sense.
Hobbies or other interests:
- I did a 180-hour internship at The Warren Center. I love the art of music, and I play multiple instruments. I also paint and was asked to paint a mural at school.
Anything else?
- I love being part of the committee. Thank you for this opportunity.

- I participates in Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and in the Plano Senior High Student Congress.
Community service:
- I like to engage in the service opportunities our battalion provides, such as anything having to do with veterans, as well as any opportunities outside of JROTC.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject is U.S. History, and my favorite teacher is Colonel Barry Rhoden.
Hobbies, jobs and interests:
- I am very interested in politics. I like to read and watch Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. And I enjoy being with my family and friends.

- I'm very happy to be here and serve.

- I have been playing soccer for Plano East for the last three years (since freshman year). I have been participating in Student Senate as both a senator and an officer since ninth grade.
Community service:
- I participate in many donation drives and events held by my clubs at my school. I am most interested in this kind of service because it gives me a chance to support a lot of different causes while supporting groups at my school.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- This year, so far, my favorite subject is American Studies because the teacher make the subject matter engaging and interesting.
Hobbies, jobs and interests:
- I like to play the piano, and I work at PSA as a referee.
Anything else?
- I'm a social person; I always like to talk and hang out with friends.

- I am a member of the Plano West Student Council. I am heavily involved in my youth group, BBYO. I used to participae in drill team for two years at Shepton High School. I was a social officer sophmore year which I loved so so much.
Community service:
- I am very involved in National Honor Society. I actively work at volunteer food banks such as North Texas Food Bank. Also, I love to volunteer at dog shelters as well because I love dogs so much!
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject is English. I love English and specifically writing because I get to express myself through my own words.
Hobbies, jobs and interests:
- I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I love to paint and reorganize my room whenever I can. Over the summer, I volunteered at my summer camp to help a mental health organization and spend time with my favorite people at camp.

- I participate in Motorsports for two years - in freshman and junior years. Due to school@home learning last year, I did not participate during my sophomore year.
Community service:
- I have been in National Junior Honor Society since middle school, and I plan to join National Honor Society this year as well.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject is science, and science has always been an interest for me.
Hobbies, jobs and interests:
- I like to play baseball, read and attend presentations during projects.
Anything else?
- I am glad I get to see my friends again this school year.

Extra-curricular activities:
- I used to be in orchestra in middle school, and was in it for all three years. However, I've become very dedicated to theatre and have been doing theatre for four years now. I've also been involved in Student Council/Senate for two years.
Community service:
- I have been an active member of Junior National Honor Society and National Honor Society for most of middle and high school. Service interest me because I've always liked putting good out into the world, and it's important to have helping others and kindness as a philosophy.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject is definitely history. I think it's really interesting to learn about all the people and events that have happened.
Hobbies, jobs and interests:
- I currently work at my family's Mexican restaurant on weekends. In my free time, I love reading books, painting and planing the ukulele.
Anything else?
- I'm very passionate about activism!

- I have participated in drill team for the past three years (from freshman through junior year). I am currently in Student Council and have participated since sixth grade. And I have been in National Honor Society (NHS) since last year.
Community service:
- I volunteer through events organized by drill team, NHS or student government. I love giving back and learning about my community.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- My favorite subject is biology. I love the subject and love that I can take it again. It's a double block which is nice.
Hobbies, jobs and interests:
- I work at Chipotle for almost a year. I've been dancing since I was four years old. I am interested in studying medicine post high school.

Drew Schwartz • Plano West

Extra-curricular activities:
- I play baseball for Plano West, and I've been playing since I was four years old. I am in the front ensemble for the Plano West Band, and I've been playing since sixth grade. In my free time, I play the piano, I've been playing since I was in first grade.
Community service:
- I like to volunteer for an organization called Bed Start. They help households in poverty, crisis and/or need by providing household furnishing at no cost. We collect and distribute furniture to people who can use it and who have need and can't always afford it. I love the interaction I've had while delivering furniture. It gives you that sense of accomplishment when seeing the immediate feedback.
Favorite subject or teacher:
- I am, and have always been, a math and science kind of guy. I can appreciated the steps taken and the way everything works out so you know if you were right or wrong.
Hobbies, jobs and interests:
- My freshman year, I had a severe injury in my elbow that prevented me from playing the game I love. However, I found my own way of getting back into it by getting a job as an umpire for PSA. This is my fourth season as an umpire, and I love doing it.
Anything else?
- Although I am a junior, I am already looking at attending OSU and looking into becoming an architect.
