• Plano ISD Board Approves 2024-25 Academic Calendar Adjusting Instructional Day by 5 Minutes 

    The 2024-25 Plano ISD Academic Calendar was approved by the Board of Trustees during their meeting on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. 

    The academic calendar is designed with the best interests of students in mind, taking into consideration valuable input from parents, students, educators and administrators. The approved calendar features a start date of Tuesday, August 13, 2024, and an end date of Friday, May 23, 2025. 

    To ensure all teachers have ample time for instructional planning, the district is adding two full days dedicated to this important task by adding five minutes to the instructional day for preschools, elementary schools, middle schools and Academy High School. This maximizes resources and instructional consistency for students. In the past, some teachers have received two collaborative instructional planning days at the expense of removing teachers from their classrooms and paying substitute teachers (using about $430,000 annually in Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief, or ESSER, funding, which is going away next year). 

    The calendar maintains a 445-minute day for 9-10 high schools and 11-12 senior high schools, however, start and end times for those campuses will be shifted by 5 minutes. 

    Many factors were considered during the calendar development period, which included establishing parameters based on new and historical input from stakeholder groups (parents, students, campus and district administrators, teachers and community members). The administration provided updates, shared multiple calendar options and sought input from the Board of Trustees during two meetings on October 17 and November 8. 

    Beginning in fall 2024, new school hours will be:

    • Early Childhood Schools: Beaty, Isaacs & Pearson (full day): 7:55 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
    • Head Start (full day): 7:55 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
    • Pre-K (full day) at Elementary School Campuses: 7:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    • Elementary Schools: 7:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    • Middle Schools: 8:25 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
    • High/Senior High Schools: 9:05 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (note later start and end times)
    • Plano ISD Academy High School: 9:05 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (edited 08.24 to match change in school hours)
