History of Mathews
Matthews honors Benjamin Franklin Mathews (1827-78), a farmer and carpenter who came to Plano in 1847 as a Peters Colonist, settling on Spring Creek. Two schools in the city, Clark High and Davis Elementary, are named after his sons-in-law. Mathews Elementary was complated in 1987 at a cost of $2.8 million.
