Mr. Jerrod Kay
Hello! I'm Jerrod Kay, and this is my fourth year teaching at Plano East. I'm extremely excited to be a part of the Panther family teaching IH Humanities 1 with Mrs. Evans and English IV. I have a true passion for teaching, and my goal this year is to help all students foster a love for reading and learning. In Humanities, we hope to cultivate a generation of life-long learners who can use our course in concert with the rest of their schedule as a springboard into the rest of their academic lives. In our English IV class, I hope to be able to have meaningful conversations about literature from across all genres and by writers hailing from all backgrounds.
Despite the fact that we are continuing to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and its lasting effects on our students, I am commited to delivering learning experiences that I hope will engage my students and inspire them to rise above our situation and contribute to the world around them in a meaningful way.
I am married to Jennifer Kay, who teaches elementary PE at Centennial Elementary over in the Plano West cluster, and we have one son, Easton, who is 8 and is in 3rd grade at Hedgcoxe Elementary in Plano. One other interesting fact about me is that I'm actually a Plano East alum, class of 2002. I previously taught all levels of English 1 at Clark High School where I served as the English 1 team leader as well as the English department co-chair. When I'm not teaching, I love watching sports, especially baseball, as I am a lifelong Texas Rangers fan. I also love playing golf and coaching my son's sports teams.
