Mr. Jerrod Kay

Hello! I'm Jerrod Kay, and this is my fifth year teaching at Plano East. I'm extremely excited to be a part of the Panther family. I teach IH Humanities 1 with Mrs. Evans, and I am the team leader for English IV. I have a true passion for teaching, and my goal this year is to help all students foster a love for reading and learning. In Humanities, we hope to cultivate a generation of life-long learners who can use our course in concert with the rest of their schedule as a springboard into the rest of their academic lives. In our English IV class, I hope to be able to have meaningful conversations about literature from across all genres and by writers hailing from all backgrounds.

I am commited to delivering learning experiences that I hope will engage my students and inspire them to rise above our situation and contribute to the world around them in a meaningful way.

I am married to Jennifer Kay, who teaches elementary PE at Centennial Elementary over in the Plano West cluster, and we have one son, Easton, who is 9 and is in 4th grade at Hedgcoxe Elementary in Plano. One other interesting fact about me is that I'm actually a Plano East alum, class of 2002.  I previously taught all levels of English 1 at Clark High School where I served as the English 1 team leader as well as the English department co-chair. When I'm not teaching, I love watching sports, especially baseball, as I am a lifelong Texas Rangers fan. I also love playing golf and coaching my son's sports teams.
