Rationale and Benefits

    • Carpenter Middle School is currently utilizing 36% of the building’s capacity
    • Carpenter Middle School is an older building, built in 1978, with higher needs according to the Plano ISD facility assessment score
    • Campuses in close proximity can accommodate the students from Carpenter without overcrowding  and eliminating the need to replace a building
    • Haggard Middle School can currently accommodate increased enrollment from Carpenter Middle School and, once the rebuild is complete, will be the newest campus in Plano ISD
    • Schimelpfenig Middle School can currently accommodate increased enrollment from Carpenter Middle School and has a higher facility assessment score than Carpenter, specifically with regard to the structure of the facility. Schimelpfenig underwent a major renovation in 2004 and will be considered for additional renovations in the next bond program
    • Hendrick Middle School can currently accommodate increased enrollment from Carpenter Middle School and has a higher facility assessment score than Carpenter, specifically with regard to the structure of the facility. Hendrick underwent minor renovations in 2009 and will be considered for additional renovations in the next bond program
    • Carpenter Middle School enrollment among families in the current attendance area has declined and is projected to remain at or below 40% over the next five years.
    • The nearly $5.4 million currently allocated to Carpenter for capital improvements can be reallocated to improve other campuses.
    • Families impacted will remain in the Plano Senior High School feeder pattern

Bond Facility Upgrades

    • Haggard Middle School is currently being rebuilt and a brand new building will be complete for the spring 2027 semester as part of the 2022 bond program. The new Haggard Building is located next to the existing building.
    • Hendrick Middle School is scheduled to receive approximately $1.1 million in upgrades from the 2022 bond program with completion by the 2025-2026 school year.
    • Schimelpfenig Middle School is scheduled to receive approximately $2 million in upgrades from the 2022 bond program.

Facility Impact

  • If Plano ISD chooses to surplus the building and land that houses Forman Elementary (per the resolution approved by the Board of Trustees on May 7, 2024), it will be offered to the City of Plano for repurposing in a manner that protects the integrity and security of the neighborhood while fulfilling a community need.
