    Plano ISD is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors. In an effort to accomplish this goal the district provides a comprehensive security program. The department of Safety and Security Services works closely with each campus and local public safety agencies on contingency planning and ensuring the proper response of necessary emergency services. This partnership stands ready to address any situation that may arise.

  • Safety and Security Procedures

    Background Checks

    • Criminal history background checks are conducted on all employees, volunteers and contractors who work on district property

    Emergency Plans and Drills

    • Multi-Hazard Emergency Operations Plan for the entire district
    • Individual and unique Campus Emergency Plan for each campus
    • All Plano ISD campuses conduct safety drills throughout the year

    School Resource Officers

    • Full-time uniformed police officers at all middle schools, high schools and senior high schools

    K-9 Detection Services

    • Specially trained canines help to keep Plano ISD campuses safe and drug free
    • Canines are trained to detect drugs and gunpowder
    • Searches conducted in classrooms, locker rooms, bathrooms, parking lots and other common areas

    Controlled Access Points

    • Single point of access for all visitors
    • Staff members utilize a video-based entry monitoring system to buzz visitors in once their ID and reason for visiting has been confirmed
    • Visitors must enter front office before gaining access to the rest of the school

    Raptor Visitor Management System

    • Screens for registered sex offenders
    • Immediately notifies staff of any custom alerts

    Surveillance

    • Video surveillance camera systems in all schools help administrators and SROs monitor the interior and exterior of the building

    Threat Assessment Teams

    • Each campus has a threat assessment team
    • District level threat assessment team has also been established
    • All members have received specialized threat assessment training

    Campus Safety Monitors

    • Two (2) Campus Safety Monitors are assigned at each senior high to monitor cameras and control access to doors, as well as patrol the campus and report and safety concerns

    Emergency Communications

    • District wide emergency radio system that allows immediate notification of emergency information and serves as backup communication for campuses should telephone service be interrupted
    • Allows for joint communication with Plano ISD, police and fire departments in an emergency
    • All campuses have radios that allow for communication between staff on the same campus
