History of Sigler
Emory Alvin Sigler was born in Lewisville in 1897 and raised there. After graduating from high school, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from what is now the University of North Texas with post-graduate work at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Sigler taught in Celina and Frisco following World War I, where he also serve as principal of the high school. In 1927, Sigler was asked to fill the position of Superintendent of Plano ISD. During his subsequent career as an administrator, he served on many state and national educational committees.
In 1961, after 34 years as Superintendent, Sigler “retired” to become Plano ISD’s first director of business services, a position he held for seven years. E.A. Sigler and his wife Mary, whom he married in 1921, had two sons, E.A. Jr., and Jimmy. He died in 1994.
Sigler Elementary opened in 1964 with two additions in 1970 and 1992, respectively.
