• 2021 Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair (DRSEF)

    Beal Bank Dallas REgional Science and Engineering Fair 2021 The 2021 Dallas Regional Science and Engineer Fair took place February 26-28 in virtual competition. A total of 474 regional projects competed across both junior (196 projects) and senior divisions (278 projects). 

    Plano ISD advanced a total of 275 projects (represented by 318 students) to DRSEF from our campus and district fairs.

    Plano ISD Results, Junior Division (grades 6-8)

    • 84% of the first place awards
    • 47% of the second second place awards
    • 63% of the third place awards
    • 40% of the honorable mentions
    • 21 special awards (out of the 34 awarded)
    • 100% of the grand prize awards

    Plano ISD Results, Senior Division (grades 9-12)

    • 76% of the first place awards
    • 76% of the second place awards
    • 67% of the third place awards
    • 64% of the honorable mentions
    • 45 special awards (out of the total 64 awarded)
    • 100% grand prize awards 

    In 2021, only junior first place finishers and senior first and second place finishers were eligible for advancement to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair (TSEF). Nine Regional projects were eligible to advance straight to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Of these, several agreed to give up their spot at State to allow the third place finisher in that category to advance allowing four third place finishers to advance to state competition.

  • Junior Division

    112 Plano ISD junior-division projects (grades 7–8) competed at DRSEF. These students represented 12 of the 13 middle school campuses and 57% of the junior-division competition.

    • Plano ISD junior-division projects captured 60% of all category awards, including 84% of the first place awards that were eligible for grand prize judging.
    • Swept four of the 19 categories
    • They captured 100% of the junior grand prizes and 100% of the junior runner up grand prize awards
    • Received 21 of the 34 special awards
    • 16 projects represented by 19 students from 10 campuses qualified for the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair
    • First place winners in Junior Division from Category judging will advance to the virtual 2021 Texas Science and Engineering Fair.

    163 Plano ISD senior-division projects (grades 9 – 12) competed at DRSEF. These students represented 9 of the 10 high school and senior high campuses and 59% of the total senior-division competition.

    • Plano ISD senior-division projects captured 71% of all category awards, including 76% of the first place awards that were eligible for grand prize judging.
    • Swept 9 of the 21 categories
    • Received 45 of the 64 special awards
    • Students captured 100% of the two senior grand prizes and 50% of senior runner up grand prize awards
    • 31 projects represented by 39 students from 6 campuses qualified for the Texas Science and Engineering Fair (TSEF)
    • 7 senior projects qualified for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in May
