  • Course Selection Process

All students in grades 5-11 will be selecting courses for the 2021-22 school year in conjunction with parents and counselors.

Students in 10th and 11th grades, and their parents, will be invited to an individual academic conference with a counselor. All other grades will make selections in either a face-to-face or remote classroom, along with the counselor.

Course selections will be shared with parents via Parent Portal between late January and mid-February, along with information about making adjustments to course selections if needed. Parents are encouraged to attend a meeting with the counselor and work with their student on course selections for the next school year.

  • Transitioning from 5th to 6th Grade

Elementary and Secondary Counselors are collaborating to create a seamless transition for students entering 6th grade for the 2021-22 school year. Campuses will send information to students and parents regarding opportunities to meet with the middle school counselor and learn about 6th grade courses, including music options for Band, Choir or Orchestra in mid December or early January. Counselors will be visiting remote and face to face classrooms in January in order to assist students with making selections. The selections will be shared with parents in early February along with information about making adjustments to course selections if needed. Parents are encouraged to attend a meeting with the counselor and work with their student on course selections for the next school year. Please contact your school counselor for questions.

  • Naviance: Online College, Career and Military Readiness Planning

Naviance is an online college, career and military readiness program. Students will use Naviance to prepare for making course selections for the 2021-22 school year. Parents that have not already set up an account that allows them view their student’s information and activities in Naviance will receive an email invitation asking them to set up an account in December. As students complete activities and assessments in Naviance, they are able to identify potential careers of interest, the related courses to those careers and post-secondary training options that will equip them to be successful in their chosen field. Students in the 11th grade will review the process for requesting high school transcripts and applying to college through Naviance in their individual academic conferences. A detailed timeline for the college application process will also be made available to 11th graders in the Junior Academic Conference Handbook.
