At the September 21 Board Work Session, Plano ISD trustees heard an update regarding the district’s health and safety protocols before considering a motion whether or not to extend a temporary indoor mask requirement at Plano ISD schools, facilities and district-provided transportation. The temporary requirement, which included exemptions for medical, religious or philosophical reasons, was scheduled to be in effect from August 26 through September 24, 2021.
The board did not vote to extend the temporary measure and, therefore, the district returned to the mask protocol described in the 2021-2022 Return to School Plan, which states:
The use of face masks is optional for all students, staff and visitors. It is recommended that individuals who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 continue to wear an appropriate face mask while around others. Universal indoor masking is recommended for all teachers, staff, students and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status (Collin County Health Care Services | Centers for Disease Control and Prevention | American Academy of Pediatrics).
